Where else but in Tropical North Queensland can you immerse yourself in business in the morning and luxuriate with a spa treatment, swim with tropical fish or sail high above a Heritage Listed rainforest canopy before sunset cocktails and a gourmet dinner?
Where else but in Tropical North Queensland can you pamper your high achievers, launch your latest product, and almost count on record attendance numbers for your bi-annual association meeting?
This is Queensland’s jewel; the destination where the tag-line `Serious Business in Australia’s most stunning location’ continues to resonate well after the event has ended; the region that never tires of offering something new, something different and something very close to perfection.
Surrounded by the matchless beauty of Tropical Queensland’s twin World Heritage features, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest, and serviced by national and international carriers, this is a destination that encourages work, relaxation and rejuvenation in equal share.
Often the most difficult decision meeting and event planners have is where to go and what to do. Should we meet in Cairns, home to the majority of accommodation and the Cairns Convention Centre? Or Palm Cove, the undisputed spa capital of Australia? Or what about Port Douglas, the quintessential sleepy village that plays host to travellers the world over every week of the year?
Wherever you decide to go you certainly won’t be disappointed. And if you need guidance and a little local knowledge then you can always call on the experience of those working at the Cairns & Region Convention Bureau. Or why not take part in their popular Sell TNQ workshops . Just visit www.cairnsconventionbureau.com for further details.
And enjoy!

The city’s geographical position makes it an ideal meeting place. It is Australia’s northern gateway to Asia and Europe, close to Australia’s eastern seaboard cities, and its tropical climate is an important drawcard to visitors.
Two of Australia’s special World Heritage attractions - the Great Barrier Reef and the tropical rainforests - are right on its doorstep. It’s no wonder that Cairns has the highest number of partners accompanying delegates meeting in this tropical capital.
The city has long been a highly favoured location for business events because of its extensive conference and incentive infrastructure, and Cairns really took its place on the global stage when the Cairns Convention Centre was named the World’s Best Congress Centre 2004 by the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC). More recently, the Cairns Convention Centre was named by the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) as the third most popular Australian centre for international association meetings (and the first in Queensland).
One of the frequent accolades presented to Cairns by event managers is the intimacy of the city and its surprising ability to make delegates feel ownership of the destination. When delegates emerge from a day’s congress into the warm, tropical evening, they meet and mingle, strolling around the expanded and enhanced Cairns Esplanade precinct with its nature-viewing boardwalks and lagoon swimming pool and walking together to inner city restaurants. And all this less than three hours from Sydney and four hours from Melbourne.

Cairns Convention Centre
The Cairns Convention Centre is undoubtedly one of the most successful Australian purpose-built convention centres. Recently the centre was ranked third in Australia behind Sydney and Melbourne for the number of international conventions it hosted during 2005 (ICCA). In 2004 it was named as the World’s Best Congress Centre by the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC). Designed with environmental concerns in mind the centre continues to impress first-time users with its functionality. The centre has 21 meeting rooms, the largest of which can accommodate up to 5000 delegates.
