Sydney

What a year it’s been for the Sydney Chapter. Membership has grown a phenomenal 47 per cent! This has in some respects been a result of positive initiatives put in place to provide tangible benefits to members. Competitive printing and freight discounts are now available. The monthly e-newsletter and the website continue to provide a terrific avenue for members to disseminate information about their business activities and, of course, the showcase and educational events offer opportunities to promote businesses. Firm relationships continue with the tertiary institutions and an active student membership. RSVP’06 was again a popular destination for business events industry personnel. Volunteers were kept busy at the ISES exhibition stand fielding enquiries about membership and the benefits of ISES. Members participated in the seminars that were considered by those in attendance to be both topical and informative.

Our Annual General Meeting and gala dinner held at The Four Seasons was a great success. The James Bond theme of “Shaken Not Stirred” proved to be the ideal format to celebrate the end of the financial year. We look forward to seeing you at forthcoming showcase events, and of course our Christmas party, scheduled for Friday, November 24.

Melbourne

ISES Melbourne Chapter has celebrated another successful year this July with their annual gala dinner, titled: “Nights of the Round Table”. The Chapter has now grown to more than 120 members, and members and guests have experienced a variety of educationals, involving many of the leading players and hot issues within the events industry. One of the many highlights included the opportunity to attend the dress rehearsal of the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. Coming up in September, the Chapter will hear about what to look for in staging large outdoor events and in October, what the World Swimming Championships in March 2007 will mean for business! We look forward to seeing you all at our Melbourne educationals where, if you’re serious about events, ISES is the place to be.

Queensland

Since launching, ISES Queensland has doubled its membership – a fantastic effort in just a few months. Our May educational event featured “Live Fire” presented at the Queensland Fire and Rescue Training Facility, Whyte Island. In addition to an extensive review of fire and how to control it, members and guests witnessed visiting firefighters train in controlling a service station fire – a truly unique experience. “The Colour of our Briefs” hosted by The Prop House on July 25 was a great success and lots of fun. Guests were treated to an educational twist on the creative process as well as some great networking supported by Caxton Street Catering (an ISES member for many years). ISES educational events are also scheduled for September and November – watch this space!

As we start another financial year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back over the past year…a year in which we saw the ‘new’ affiliate structure in full operation across the region and the rest of the world. What an outstanding success the structure has proved to be, providing a national focus for our organisation and for those other affiliates in the UK, Europe and Canada…combined with the impressive structure across the US ISES is now truly an internationally focussed organisation.

In Australasia our membership has grown to nearly 350 members (Sydney and Melbourne Chapters) at the end of this financial year and with new chapters in formation commencing in Queensland and Hong Kong…exciting times ahead!

I would also like to take this opportunity to promote ISES Eventworld, an institute for professional development, this year being held in Hawaii from August 24 to 26th. This is our organisation’s major annual worldwide conference and your opportunity to develop your relationships across the globe…it is an outstanding event providing great opportunities for special event practitioners…it is THE conference for serious special event professionals.
