Five years out of the industry after working for Staging Connections for many years, Ian Whitworth has re-entered the business events industry, launching Scene Change with Peter Kolevas.
With the tag-line “People Rejoice… Now there is choice”, Scene Change is, quite simply, all about giving event planners another option when selecting their audio-visual and technical suppliers for their events.

Mr Whitworth is quick to point out that the company does not and never will do event management.
“No creative and no theming,” he says.
“There are lots of people who specialise in that but it’s not us. We want to work with those people in providing them specialist AV expertise.
“We’re not aiming to be huge. We like to think of ourselves as being the Apple to their IBM.”
And the “their” he is talking about is Staging Connections, the largest AV company in Australia and New Zealand.

Scene Change was officially launched at the recent MEA conference in Hobart, home to one of its larger branches. They also have a team established in Wollongong and are currently searching out other like-minded specialists in other states and cities around the country to set up shop.

Mr Whitworth says Scene Change uses the most high-tech, high-end equipment not only for the benefit of clients but Scene Change AV technicians.

“Using the best equipment really makes the technical guys happy, knowing that they’re working with the best stuff available. They like the high-end gear, and it helps them do a better job for the clients.
“We’ve had a very good response from the industry in general [to establishing Scene Change].
“There’s a perception out there that if a venue has an in-house AV supplier then you have to use that supplier, which is not true. We’re giving people a choice and the feedback we’ve had so far has been very supportive of this.”
