To be named Qualia, the resort is an important addition to the premium end of the Australian accommodation market and will provide a new reason for domestic and international travellers to re-look at Australia as a destination for their next luxury getaway.

Only two to three hours non-stop flight time from Australia’s major east coast cities, Qualia is located on the secluded and breathtakingly beautiful northernmost point of the island and marks the latest commitment by owners, Bob Oatley and his family, to the revitalisation of this stunning Whitsundays destination.

Selecting the perfect name - Qualia (pronounced “kwahleea”) - for this prestigious resort was a priority. Passionately involved in every element of the project, the Oatley family felt they needed just the right word to encapsulate the understated elegance and quality.

From the smooth stones underfoot on the pebble beach, to the scent of the surrounding Eucalyptus trees and the Hoop Pine used in the Pavilions; the sound of water breaking on the Coral Sea shore or the soft breeze that comes around the point not to mention the incredible taste sensations from the dining and wine experiences to be offered… the name Qualia pays testimony to its Latin origins, meaning “a collection of sensory experiences.”
Qualia features 60 elegant, private one-bedroom pavilions accessible only to the resort’s guests. Each pavilion has been carefully designed by Australian architect Chris Beckingham to blend into the natural environment giving the resort an unusual sense of space and harmony. The “Windward” pavilions include their own plunge-pools and are over four times the size of an average hotel room. The “Leeward” pavilions also will delight guests with their sense of space and meticulous design features.

Guests will also be able to enjoy the facilities outside their pavilions. Spa Qualia, a beautiful six-room spa with four single treatment rooms and two couples rooms complete with Roman baths is located on the pinnacle of the point giving it sweeping views. There will also be a state-of-the art gym and yoga centre right on the water’s edge and two infinity pools.

Two restaurants open only to Qualia guests – the elegant Long Pavilion restaurant and Pebble Beach – a more casual space, will provide exceptional food and wine experiences. Special intimate dining options on the beach or in the Library or private dining rooms also will be offered.
Qualia will be open to guests from August 2007 and is available for sole use and group incentives.
