Following a record year globally in 2014, CWT’s new Australia and New Zealand MD, Lisa Akeroyd, is looking to boost its meetings business this year.

With new business sales of US$1.6 billion in 2014, and an overall sales volume increase of 1.6 per cent to US$27.3 billon, CWT is expecting further growth across its business segments in 2015.

The Asia Pacific is expected to lead the growth following a five per cent increase year on year, with particular strength coming from operations in China and Japan.

Its meetings division, CWT Meetings & Events, organised more than 33,000 meetings and events around the world for more than 1.3 million delegates which was an increase of 4.2 percent globally in 2014.

Lisa Akeroyd, appointed the Australia and New Zealand managing director towards the end of 2014, believes there will be strong growth in CWT Meetings & Events this year, with the year already off to a flyer.

Since she took the helm CWT has established a new leadership team with head of CWT Meetings and Events now led by Wayne Castle.

She says Castle’s experience in the meetings sector coupled with what CWT believes is a renewed confidence in the corporate sector will see the M&E team smash its targets this financial year.

“This year we are starting to see the fruits of our labour,” she said.

“We expected the start of 2015 to be relatively flat but we’ve had an incredibly surprising start to the year in terms of demand. Domestic travel is going through the roof.

“In the M&E space we’ve seen that that’s been replicated. The team have a lot of tenders out there, the demand is out there, and they are very, very busy right now.”

She said while meetings and events currently accounted for around 10 per cent of revenue for the company in Australia and New Zealand they wanted that to grow considerably.
