Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has won the 2015 Digital Infrastructure Award at the annual IMEX tradeshow in Frankfurt.

The MCEC, in partnership with Plenary Conventions, invested more than $2 million to upgrade its IP network and cabling infrastructure in the past year which has increased the capacity and speed of MCEC’s network tenfold to handle larger internet connections. Further, the MCEC has implemented a new wireless internet portal with a simplified login page for customers featuring event branding and sponsor logos.

The upgrade has meant the MCEC can handle major events like the International AIDS Conference in 2014 and the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX).

The MCEC’s director of technology operations, Michael Walsh, said: “Providing the right digital infrastructure is the beginning of our tailored approach to technology; it also comes down to our team of tech experts who bring our customers’ events to life and enhance the overall delegate experience.”

Now in its second year, the Digital Infrastructure Awards recognise meeting venues that work innovatively to enable top class connected meetings.
