Events hmm….where do I start? After completing a degree - BA in Design for theatre and television I began working in the film industry. I worked in the art department for films such as Moulin Rouge, Mission: Impossible 2, the TV series Farscape, and an Aussie film The Man Who Sued God. While these projects were interesting and fun, I felt I was missing something. I wanted more of a challenge, more creative control over projects and more job stability.

I took a position as an event co-ordinator for a small event company that was part of a large PR firm. I learnt to develop and create events, product launches, conferences, exhibitions and promotions for clients such as Disney, Electronic Arts, Baxter’s sauces, Sabre and Swift and Moore. I then felt I was ready to cut my teeth on a production of grander proportions and went to work for The Croc Festival, an indigenous cultural festival for school children that tours remote communities all over Australia.
To say the least, this was a huge challenge. I took charge of managing the logistics of staff, travel and accommodation for the entire festival. It has been one of the most rewarding projects of my career to date.

At the end of the festival I moved back into corporate events but became more involved in company culture and marketing. The company I worked for took a different approach to events than I had experienced in the past. I was working much more closely with clients to better understand their needs and develop an event that would best suit their position/product needs. Often I found that the end result was very much different to the clients’ initial ideas. The role was more events marketing and working with company culture, so I took the opportunity to increase my skill base by enrolling in an entertainment marketing diploma. This helped me become more of an asset to the company and my clients.

Seven years and what feels like hundreds of events on, I am working for Hancock Events. I feel my diverse range of skills enables me to approach any event with the kind of confidence that only experience can produce. Hancock Group of Companies is a great place for me to use all my skills and talents.

It is a supportive environment where the expression of creative ideas is encouraged. The motto we work to is: ‘Nothing is too big or small, there is always an answer, it may just require a little lateral thinking to get to develop an outcome’.

SUPERVISOR’S COMMENT:
Louise is a tremendous asset to Hancock Events. She approaches every event with great energy, enthusiasm and passion; and has the ability to stay calm and good-humored through the everyday stresses common to all producers. Her innate creativity, design skills and vast experience in production, particularly in the area of event marketing, is an enormous benefit for our corporate clients. Combined with her strong organisational skills and ability to think laterally she is truly a ‘young gun’ who is definitely going places. (Within Hancock Events, that is!)
